Triumph Other description

Launched in 1957 the Model Twenty One was the first of the Triumph unit construction twin cylinder motorcycles from the Meridan factory. With a capacity of 349 cc, the engine was a classic Edward Turner design with a 360 degree crankshaft, twin gear driven camshafts and twin plunger oil pump. The cylinder block was cast iron with an alloy head and separate rocker boxes. The engine was dry sump lubrication and there was a single Amal Monobloc carburetor. Drive was by a conventional four speed gearbox, with a right foot gear lever.

There are two explanations for the 'Twenty One' name spelt out in full on the side panels. The first explanation is that it celebrates the twenty-first anniversary of Triumph Engineering Co. LTD. The second explanation is that the important US export market rated motorcycle engine displacement in cubic inches and 21 cubic inches equates to 350 cc.

This example has received a Complete restoration about 15 years ago and has been used sparingly since. It is still in show quality condition. There is one small ding on the body that I attempted to capture a picture of. I believe a good paintless dent removal tech could remedy it. All of the chrome and stainless shows very well. All lighting and charging system functions properly. Engine and Frame are matching numbers original. Runs flawlessly with the exception of  smoking at start up that goes away soon after it is running. (valve seals?)These bikes are ultra cool and rarely come up for sale here in the States. Questions? Craig Vetter Grand Marshall for 2012 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days

Tue, 22 May 2012

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame member and noted designer Craig Vetter — whose contributions to motorcycling range from the iconic Windjammer fairings and the Triumph X-75 Hurricane to the Mystery Ship limited-production high-performance motorcycles and a number of high-profile motorcycle fuel-economy contests — will be honored as this year’s grand marshal at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days featuring Rockers and Mods, July 20-22, at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. Vetter has been a member of the American Motorcyclist Association and a designer since 1965, and his varied background gives him a unique alliance to both the Rockers and Mods motorcycle subcultures. His design projects over the years have involved café racers — the motorcycles of choice for Rockers — and scooters, which are favored by Mods.

2013 Triumph Trophy SE Recalled for Center Stand Problem

Thu, 02 Jan 2014

Triumph is recalling 2013 Trophy SE models because of a risk of fracture in its center stand mount. According to documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the left side center stand lug may fracture, reducing the amount of weight the stand can support. Triumph discovered the problem during a quality control audit.

Enigma Variations

Wed, 14 Mar 2012

Remember the Enigma Triumph being built by a collective of British engineeers and specialists? Just been dropped a note by the bike's owner - know on these parts as JimLin. Inexplicaby, for a journalist's 'project', things still appear to be moving ahead at a healthy velocity.
