Yamaha YZF-R description

In 1998 the sports bike world was taken by storm, and Honda's 900RR was knocked from its premier-sportsbike pedestal. Yamaha's goal was to build a no-compromise supersport with the highest power, lowest weight, and most compact dimensions. What they revealed would become a legend, and a motorcycle whose influence is still visible in today's machines.

The 2000 R1 showcased many subtle refinements to the first-year model, resulting in - among other things - reduced weight, better fueling, and an improved gearbox. Unfortunately, over the years most of these early R1's have suffered from neglect and abuse, making a clean, original bike almost impossible to find.

This "Vivid Red Cocktail" 2000 model - the rarer of the two color options - has virtually escaped the effects of time and mileage. Bought new in Lebanon, PA, it has always been meticulously maintained and shows very few imperfections. It remains 100% stock, even down to the factory warning decals. As you will see from the photographs, this R1 is an astonishingly clean example. The only indicators of its 12,050 miles are one small stone chip on the leading edge of the left cowling, a faint scratch on the muffler, and a light rub mark on the tail section's left "R1" decal (only in the decal, not the paint). Each of these marks is clearly pictured. The bike has never been crashed or dropped in any way. The fuel tank has had clear cling-vinyl protectors in place to prevent any scratches (not installed for photos).

This is the cleanest first-generation I have ever seen, and I was ecstatic to add it to my collection. My garage space (and back account!) is limited, however, and it is time for another R1 enthusiast to appreciate owning this bike. If you intend to remove the warning decals, install a pipe and an undertail eliminator, and tell all your buddies what a "fast crotch-rocket" you just bought, please move on - this is not the bike for you. I do not need to sell this bike and would like it to go to a good home, where it will remain in its rare, 100% stock condition.

I am located in Lititz, PA and will work with a buyer's shipping agent if that is necessary. I have the bike advertised elsewhere and reserve the right to end the listing early.

Thanks - Chuck

Mystic Mac's 2014 MotoGP predictions

Thu, 06 Feb 2014

There is no real off season in Moto GP.  Although we complain about being starved of racing, for those at the sharp end, in little more than two months they have new bikes to assemble, team staff to put in place and sponsors to nail down that will pay for it all.  This time frame is also tight for riders, as it seems more every year go straight under the surgeon’s knife after the last round and spend the short winter recuperating for the season ahead. The 2014 Moto GP championship looks like a cracker as apart from the ten full factory riders we now have at least eight non factory riders with properly competitive machinery.  We also have five Brits on the grid, two with podium potential.  Whatever happens though (providing you have BT Sport) you can just sit back and enjoy watching the incredible Marc Marquez do things that shouldn’t be possible. Speaking of whom, I didn’t believe a Rossi replacement would come this soon.  And when I say replacement, I mean a rider that is the full package.  Although in some ways quite different to Vale, he’s an equally phenomenal talent plus a very likeable character that appeals to the masses and although respectful to his rivals off track, deadly competitive in the heat of battle.  Being young and good looking he’s obviously a dream for sponsors and the sport in general.  Marquez has evolved in his own way but thankfully into a perfect replacement for our sport when the VR steps down.

Dunlop’s Newest DOT Race Tire: the Sportmax GP-A Pro

Mon, 21 Jul 2014

Dunlop has released its newest DOT-legal racing tire, the Sportmax GP-A Pro. Being the spec tire manufacturer for the AMA Pro Roadracing series gives Dunlop plenty of top-level R&D test riders to develop the next line of tires. Couple that with the company’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Buffalo, New York, and the days of grabbing a set of UK tires over their American counterparts is over.
