Yamaha XS description

I started a new project and need some garage space.  I'll be sad to see this one go, it is fun to ride and excellent garage art.  This is a '77 XS650 that is very well done as a Tracker.  The tank has been coated with Caswell tank liner so today's gas won't destroy the fiberglass.  The motor was disassembled and checked about 2 years and maybe 500 miles ago.  The top end got a valve job and rings, other than that, all was good.  The carbs were rebuilt with Canadian spec kits, the frame was painted with GM silver Dupont paint and most tabs removed.  The bodywork was professionally painted and I'd say is show quality or very close to it.  I rode without a front fender for a while but found I needed one so an RZ350 fender was added.  The wheels were powder coated and the calipers were polished along with side cases and other bits.  The rear brake was converted to a disc and works great.  The forks were rebuilt and reservoir shocks were added.  I do not run a speedometer or electric start on the bike but they would be easy to add.  I do have the speedo drive and starter that will come with the purchase.  There is a lot of money in this bike and it is built very well.  Shipping expenses are the buyer's responsibility.  I can deliver to Forward Air or Federal if needed.  The title is clear, in my name and registration is current.  A $500 deposit is due at close of auction and balance due within 7 days.

Update:  I have this bike listed for sale locally and have had some decent interest.  If it has no bids I may sell it and end the auction early.  I am adding a "Buy It Now" price = to what I have it listed for locally.

R1 noise, bike porn and a quick lap

Tue, 24 Apr 2012

Trawling the internet for a sound clip of the Crossplane Crank Yamaha R1 on full chatter, I came across this: a few fast laps on board with New Zealand Superbike racer Tony Rees as he works the CABS Throttle Blipper on his 2011 R1. (Skip to 7:35 for the fast ones.) CABS is a system used by Superbike teams that makes use of the R1’s digitally controlled throttle. When you change up a gear, the bike blips in the perfect amount of revs to save time on track and make downshifts as quick and easy as clutch-less upshifts.

Yamaha Planning Sub-$500 Model to Undercut Honda Dream Yuga

Not long after Honda launched its ultra low-cost Dream Yuga in India, Yamaha announced it is considering a new own model that will be nearly 40% cheaper. The 109cc Dream Yuga is Honda‘s latest weapon in the battle for India’s 13-million unit per year motorcycle market. Priced at 44,642 Indian rupees (US$806), the Dream Yuga is the most affordable Honda model available in India.
