Basic specs: A 1670cc, air-cooled, ohv, four-valve-per-cylinder, fuel-injected, inverted-fork, belt-drive, 48-degree V-Twin that hammered out 80 rear-wheel horsepower and 104-foot-pounds of torque.

Why it won: The Warrior barely got nudged out of 2002â€²s Best Cruiser award by Harley-Davidsonâ€™s new-for-â€™02 V-Rod, but it did grab an Honorable Mention in what was a very close competition in that category. The Warrior thoroughly impressed us by bridging the huge, seemingly insurmountable abyss between cruiser and sportbike. It offered the feel, the sound and the soul of a V-Twin cruiser, but mated it with enough cornering clearance, steering agility, suspension competence and radial-sport-tire grip to allow surprisingly spirited handling on twisty backroads. â€œA rationalized version of a cruiser,â€ is how we described it in our January, 2002, issue, â€œa bike that encourages you to ride the type of roads that must be ridden.â€ If thereâ€™s one bike that looks and sounds like a laid-back cruiser but hustles and bustles on a backroad, this is it.

After much anticipation, Yamaha has revealed its new R25 250cc sportbike at the 43rd annual Tokyo Motor Show in Japan. The manufacturer has long offered a 125cc model in India, and that’s where word surfaced of an impending 250cc model. We will have to wait a bit longer however, as the R25 at the Tokyo Motor Show is still just a prototype, meaning we should expect to see the production model for 2015.

I can’t get enough of pictures that capture a specific, hard to define moment; the successful encapsulation of the absolute balls-to-the-wall, life or death commitment that riding a motorbike as fast as possible involves. We all know. We’ve all been there – even if it’s only a once-in-a-lifetime moment. Maybe (for us mere mortals) it’s that rapidly, yet unexpectedly, tightening left-hand bend with a shitty, mud-covered veneer just at the apex.

Carlos Checa extended his lead in the 2011 World Superbike Championship, winning both races at Utah’s Miller Motorsports Park. The Althea Ducati racer recorded his second double of the season and now has six wins in ten races. Checa also scored the double in Utah in 2008 when Miller Motorsports Park made its debut on the WSBK calendar.
