The front suspension consisted of telescopic coil spring forks and it had 137 mm of wheel travel. The rear suspension consisted of a swing arm with two dampers that were adjustable for preload, and it had 80 mm of travel. The front brake consisted of dual discs that measured 298 mm, and the rear brake consisted of an expanding drum. The front tire measured 3 inches in width, and supported a 19-inch rim. Body Design
The Yamaha XJ550 Maxim was a custom cruiser bike, with an exposed engine, no fairing and a design that went heavy on the chrome and light on the plastic. In fact, the engine, the exhaust pipe and the chassis were all chrome-plated. The seat was designed to allow the rider to lean back while riding, with his arms and legs stretched out in front of him to touch the handlebars and footpegs.

Value
When it was new, the Yamaha XJ550 Maxim went for $2,599 to $2,699. As of 2012, a used Maxim may fetch anywhere from $400 for a "fixer-upper" model to $1,650 for a model in good condition.

    Pedrosa: most wins, least successful

    Wed, 11 May 2011

Should Dani Pedrosa win at Le Mans this coming weekend he will become the most successful rider In the premier-class not to win the coveted title. After his triumph in Estoril the Repsol Honda rider currently finds himself on 13 wins and in joint first and a win, at a circuit that sees him rank as one of riders with the most victories in all classes, would make him a clear leader. Joining Pedrosa at the top of the ranking is Max Biaggi and Randy Mamola, two riders who became associated with the number two.
