Yamaha Big Bear 250 description

1966 Yamaha YDS3C "Big Bear" scrambler 250 two-stroke.  Clear Illinois title in my name.  Bike is in running condition, licensed and insured. 4300 original miles.  Has original key.

RIDER quality bike, Not a show bike.  Get on and go.  Worry about imperfections later.

In general, an original survivor with some upgrades.  NOTE: I have the chrome front fender that is included in the sale.  Fender is in nice shape.

READ THIS:  if you are looking for a show bike, look elsewhere.  if you think this bike is perfect, look elsewhere.  if you are trying to make a huge profit on this bike by flipping it, look elsewhere.  if you appreciate vintage bikes and want one that looks pretty good, is a rare model, runs and rides with a title, read on...

Original paint on tank and headlight bucket.  Both sidecovers/oil tank have been painted white years ago (they should be blue).  Has gas dipstick in tank.  Tank has some dings and dents, but overall presentable.  Chrome on the rims is nice, as well as the general condition of the bike.  Note, the exhaust have some pitting and are not that great looking, but are solid.

HERE is what I have done:  brand new knobby tires, rim strips, and tubes.  (tires probably have 5 miles on them).  New front brake cable.  New clear fuel line.  New cone fuel filters.  New rear brake pads.  Sonically cleaned carbs.  Builtwell grips.  Folding bar-end mirror.  New rubber on kick-starter.  New spark plugs.  New gold heavy-duty chain.  New rear wheel adjusters.  Added Norton fork gaiters for looks.  New clear oil line from tank to pump.  Fresh Royal Purple transmission oil.  Upgraded twin leading shoe front brake off a YDS3 street bike.

Bike started June 14th, 2016 after sitting since October on the 4th kick.  Choke works.  Headlight works, brake light works, neutral light works, high beam works, speedo works, tach works, odometer works.  Key works.  Horn does NOT work.  NO tool kit.

NOTE:  has a weep in the gasket on the bottom of the motor.  Not too bad, just keep it on the center stand and the drips are less. (side stand position has more weep).

1.5litre V8 two-stroke

I don't know about you but I've yet to ride anything with two wheels and an engine that I didn't enjoy in one form or another. From minimotos to 1800 Goldwings, there's always some fun to be had even if it is just the novel experience that makes you grin. I am not one for a pidgeonhole, that's for sure.

And in my front room this evening...

NO IT'S NOT an illusion: you're looking at the 1981 Yamaha OW53, ridden by double World Champion Barry Sheene in the first three rounds of the '81 500GP championship. The bike's owner, aircraft engineering entrepreneur Chris Wilson, has lent the £100,000 GP machine to Visordown for our stand at this year's NEC Motorcycle Show - 27th November to 6th December 2009. Sheene raced the bike in the 1981 championship, where he finished fourth at Salzburgring, sixth at Hockenheim and third at Monza.

Yamaha Wraps Up Sepang MotoGP Test

Thu, 02 Feb 2012

Pre-season test lap times aren’t a precise barometer for how the 2012 MotoGP Championship season will go, but Yamaha has to feel good about its results after this week’s testing at Malaysia’s Sepang circuit. Last February at Sepang, Honda riders were the talk of the preseason session, taking three of the top four lap times on each day of the test. That pattern repeated itself in the final championship standings with Casey Stoner taking the championship, Dani Pedrosa finishing third and Andrea Dovizioso fourth.
