Suzuki GSX / Katana description

We bought this Katana for sport touring and advertising for our business - Sturgis ATV & Small Engines.

With the big Yoshimura exhaust, it was running lean, and we elected to go ahead and replace all of the exhaust valves and then re-jetted the carbs to compensate for the higher air flows through the engine.  With the carbs apart, we overhauled them, too.

The stock sprockets had been replaced with lower gears (included) but I didn't like the RPM at highway speeds (75-80) and replaced them with higher than stock gear ratio, (replaced both sprockets and chain) thus improving fuel economy, and still leaving tons of power to the rear wheel!  You can still roast the tire when getting on the on-ramps to the Interstate, but get 50 mpg if you be nice to it!

The body is gorgeous, with the rear turn-signals delete, LED tail-light/stop/turn, with orange LED emergency flash.  The body stripe kit has been customized to include several new reflective stripes on the sides and rear of the bike to improve night visibility.

New front and rear tires, new battery, and choke cable.  Always babied and loved.  Starts every time, reliable fun!
Mileage will increase slightly, as it is still being ridden around the 2013 Sturgis Bike Rally.  (This bike has been in many of the Sturgis videos!)

Motorcycles at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show

Mon, 28 Sep 2009

Two weeks ago, I took a break from my regular duties gathering news for Motorcycle.com to fly to Germany to cover the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show for our sister site AutoGuide.com. For two hectic days, AutoGuide editor Colum Wood and I scrambled across the massive 6.2 million square foot Messe Frankfurt trade fair compound, running from press conference to press conference to get the latest on exotic sport cars, futuristic concept models and international unveilings from the automotive world. It was heaven for car lovers, but for me, it meant fighting my way through hordes of photogs, auto-journalists and car show models to get the first photos of four-wheeled goodies from MINI, Ferrari and Lotus.

Yoshimura Suzuki Signs Martin Cardenas to Race AMA Superbike Championship

Tue, 22 Jan 2013

Reigning AMA Daytona Sportbike Champion Martin Cardenas has signed on to race in the AMA Superbike class for Yoshimura Suzuki. The move was rumored to be in the works for quite some time now, especially following Cardenas’ release from the final year of his contract with his former employer Team Hammer. Cardenas will return to the Superbike class this season, riding a Suzuki GSX-R1000 alongside teammate Chris Clark.

MotoGP Approves “Factory 2″ Rules

Tue, 18 Mar 2014

We’re just days away from the start of the 2014 MotoGP season and one would think it’s a little late for series organizers to make any significant rule changes. At least, one would think that if one were unfamiliar with the political back-and-forths going on between the major manufacturers and MotoGP promoter Dorna. But with the season-opening Qatar round about to begin, the Grand Prix Commission approved new rules establishing a compromise between the new Factory and Open options.
