Up for auction here is my 1976 Honda XL 250. There is 3900 miles on her. Stunningly beautiful blue paint. Runs, shifts, drives and is AWESOME!!!! I'm selling because I'm swamped with projects at home and my kids big wheels are taking over my three car garage----God help me. I bought her over a year ago and immediately got to work fixing her up. She was in great shape when I got her but cosmetically she needed some help. The side covers were destroyed and what I did was some bodywork and paint on them, new stickers as well. I also repainted the exhaust and cleaned up the bike as good as I could. I repaired the electrical system because the blikers did not work. I have been riding her all over my neighborhood and she starts right up---ZERO hesitation. She runs MINT. Its hard to believe this bike is 40 years old. Last summer I had many people ask me to sell it to them and obviously I declined (it was too much fun). People are shocked when I tell them what the bike is worth ( they assume, generally $5,000-$6,000 )---its obviously not that high, the bike just looks so GOOD!!!! This is NOT a concourse machine. I am a father of three boys with two jobs and a wife who demands I mow the lawns...I'm a shade-tree guy with a background in Nuclear Physics. What I mean, is that I'm busy as heck, very competent but don't have the time to do a real restoration job. NO title! I will supply police documentation proving the bike is NOT stolen. I had every intention of registering the bike in Vermont, and transferring that registration to New York (where I live) and then getting a NEW, NY title...I',m just too darn busy...so that'll be your job, should you choose. What the bike could use: 1. New rear shocks. Functionally they are fine ( I'm 6'3", 220 and they feel fine, but they have 40 years of pitting )...new ones are ~$100. 2. The tires appear to be original! They should be replaced if you want to drive this thing seriously on the road. There is plenty of tread, this is just a condition of 40 year old rubber. 3. Not so much "could use this" but more a revelation---there are nicks and dings (TINY) nicks and dings that I feel I should mention. ***Bike is for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early...email me for more info*** Deposit Payment of $250 due at auction end. CASH at time of pickup or cashiers check and you wait until it clears to pick up this beauty. I'll help you arrange shipping if needed. Just bring a pickup truck to Eastern Long Island, hit the beach and drive home...that'll be nicer. This is a no disappointment ride. I've owned, and sold many motorcycles through ebay and this is my favorite so far. Why? Because of its beautiful simplicity and reliability...this is a great ride. Good luck |

Having a Randy Mamola moment
Thu, 10 May 2012Back in 1985 Randy Mamola was captured on film performing the most miraculous save of all time, hanging on for dear life as his Honda NSR500 tried to fling him from his seat. Recently, we've seen some impromptu homages to the original with Jonathan Rea at Assen and the near-save from Jakub Kornfeil in the Moto3 race at Jerez. Now we have on-board footage of American racer Genki Hagata calming a high-side at the Infineon Raceway in California.

The first race saw the reigning World Superbike champion fight his way up from 11th place for the win while Race 2 offered a three-way battle between the two Kawasaki riders and Aprilia‘s Sylvain Guintoli.
