Harley-Davidson reported a profit of $134.0 million dollars over the third quarter of 2012. That represents a 27% decrease from the net profit of $183.6 million reported over the same quarter of 2011, but the drop was an expected result from a planned decrease in third quarter shipments as Harley-Davidson adopts an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) manufacturing system at its York, Pa., factory. Harley-Davidson Reveals “Twin-Cooled” Engine with Precision Liquid Cooling

As we gleaned from recently revealed CARB documents, Harley-Davidson has introduced two new liquid cooled engines. The new engines use a combination of air-cooling and precision liquid cooling, similar to what BMW did with its 2013 R1200GS. One version of the engine, dubbed the Twin-Cooled High Output Twin Cam 103 will be used on the 2014 Harley-Davidson Ultra Limited and the Tri-Glide Ultra trike while the CVO Limited will use a 110ci engine known as the Screamin’ Eagle Twin-Cooled Twin Cam 110.

Zero Motorcycles Named to Made in USA Foundation Hall of Fame

The Made in the USA Foundation has named Zero Motorcycles to its 2012 Hall of Fame class, recognizing the electric motorcycle manufacturer’s commitment to American manufacturing. Zero Motorcycles, founded in 2006 in Santa Cruz, Calif., by former NASA engineer Neal Saiki, becomes the second motorcycle manufacturer named to the Foundation’s Hall of Fame. Harley-Davidson was inducted in 2011.
