Harley-Davidson Touring description

Sweet FLHX.

  • I bought it with 7500 miles on it in late 2011 from Hannum's HD in Media, Pa.
  • Recently serviced (8/22/13) at the Harley dealership in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
  • Remains covered under HD Extended Service Plan through September 23, 2013.

This bike sounds and runs just great.  Has a high performance upgrade made up of Vance & Hines"BIG RADIUS 2-INTO-2" Pipes* producing extra horsepower and torque and including a "FUELPAK" Fuel Management System** (Electronic Control Unit "ECU" similar to a Power Commander) and a Screaming Eagle "HEAVY BREATHER" high performance air intake kit.

Other goodies include:
  • High Rise Handlebars, 8".
  • Custom grips.
  • Matching shifter pegs.
  • Stainless braided brake and clutch cables.
  • Heated hand grips.

I've got 4 bikes and just lost my job; Black Beauty has to go.

HD Recommends Things to Pack on a Long Motorcycle Trip

Thu, 23 Jul 2009

Harley-Davidson was kind enough to post on Twitter a PDF of a list of things to bring with you on a long motorcycle trip. And what a list! It’s hard to believe you could squeeze all this stuff onto yourself and your bike.

Bonhams To Auction Wayne Pierce Family Collection Of Motorcycles Jan. 9, 2014, In Las Vegas

Fri, 04 Oct 2013

On January 9, 2014, during the fourth annual Las Vegas Sale of motorcycles at Bally’s Hotel and Casino, Bonhams, the world’s largest auction house for cars, motorcycles and memorabilia, will be auctioning off over 50motorcycles from the extensive Wayne Pierce family museum collection, all offered at no reserve. Among the machines is a first-year Harley-Davidson Sportster believed to be the 10th XL883 produced in 1957, a 1933 Harley VLE police bike that saw actual duty on the streets of Chicago before being cast in the 1987 Kevin Costner gangster movie, “The Untouchables,” and an authentic and unrestored 1947 Harley Knucklehead wearing period aftermarket accessories. Wayne “Pappy” Pierce started his Harley-Davidson dealership in 1957, run out of a one-room tin shed in DeKalb, Illinois.

Vespa goes back to the future

Thu, 22 Nov 2012

IT'S been a while coming, but the gorgeous Vespa 946 - EICMA 2012's Best of Show - has finally introduced something to the two-wheeled world that our four-wheeled counterparts have had for a while.  I call this 'reverse retro-futurism' - the art of borrowing lines from models past and imbuing them with a sleek sense of future direction (as opposed to retro-futurism, the pre-1960s design trend of depicting the technology of the future. The term 'decopunk' may come close, but feel free to tell me if there's a more exact term.) It's what the New Mini and the New Beetle (both 1997 and 2012 versions) have done so well, and so successfully: building an all-new model as a tribute to a classic, something that's modern yet already timeless, with a widely-appreciated, inclusive aesthetic (and here we eliminate the Plymouth PT Cruiser from the conversation). The biking world is great at retro, indeed thrives on it, but not so good at adding in a taste of the 21st century.
