Can-Am MX500 description

This pretty rare 1985 Can Am MX500 (correct motor & Frame # MX500)started out as a low hour bike on standard bore that was meticulously gone through to make it as close to "like new" as possible. This restoration took over 12 months and everything was done to a professional level (this is not a production line special). You would be hard pressed to find one in this condition. If you are a Can Am enthusiast this belongs in your collection. Below is a list of things that were done to the bike. If you require additional pictures or have any questions at all feel free to contact me. I would be happy to answer them. I realize this is quite a bit of money so I would be open to a two part payment as long as it does not go beyond a few months. Thank you for looking

Bike details:

  • Motor - Compression was excellent and the motor was in great shape originally. It was still disassembled and completely gone through with all new seals and bearings replaced (see pic's). Cylinder and head were send out for vapor blasting and look brand new.
  • Frame - frame and sub frame were media blasted, inspected and powder coated the correct color to match OEM. 80-90% of the bolts/nuts on the bike were replaced with titanium and they look great. Pegs were also striped and powder coated and new peg pins and springs were installed.
  • Seat - seat pan is in perfect condition. A new seat cover was installed
  • Exhaust -  pipe and silencer are original. There are some dings around the neck of the pipe (it is near impossible to find a nicer one). Silencer is near perfect.
  • Wheels - the manufacturer was using mixed date rims and the originals were different colors so I installed brand new rims, hubs were media blasted and refinished in the correct satin black and laced with new Buchanan spokes. Brand new Pirelli tires and heavy duty tubes were also installed along with new rim locks.
  • Swing arm - There was hours or sanding all the way up to 800 grit to get out the imperfections and bring back the OEM look.
  • Suspension - rear shock was rebuilt with new seals and the spring was powder coated. Front forks were service with new seals, oil and fork boots. Fork bottoms/ triples were media blasted and powder coated the correct OEM color.
  • Controls - this bike has all the original Domino levers, perches, perch covers and even grips!
  • Bodywork - Tank was professionally prepped and painted with PPG base coat / clear coat and all plastic is new. The OEM front and rear fender on this bike as it came from the factory looked terrible so I used an 83-84 front / rear fender which looks much nicer. All new factory correct decals were installed on the tank, scoops, swing arm and number plates.  I even installed the fork bottom, tank, silencer and rear fender decals to give it that factory look.

SHIPPING:  costs and arrangements are the responsibility of the buyer. I don't mind holding the bike for a while once it is paid for. I realize it takes time to make shipping arrangements and I want to make this a stress free experience for the buyer. I do have a pretty good shipper who is very reasonable that I would be happy to pass on to you.

INTERNATIONAL BUYERS - I have several Over sea's Shipping services that I can refer you to that will crate and ship to countries like Australia, New Zealand, UK as well as other country's in Europe if you require those services.

PAYMENT: Deposit is nonrefundable. Balance payment is due within 7 days of the auction ending. I will accept the balance of payment in the following ways-Bank transfer, cash in person, Bank of America cashiers check or USPS money orders.

I remember my first bicycle. A blue frame with white handlebars and a long white banana seat for comfort. I was riding a Smurf.

Will The Bombardier Trailtrike Make Trikes Cool?

Thu, 11 Jul 2013

Charles Bombardier, creator of the highly controversial Can-Am Spyder and grandson of the man who invented the snowmobile, thinks he has an idea to make trikes cool. It’s a tall order, considering most motorcycling circles banish three-wheelers as some kind of second class device, not worthy of mingling with true two wheelers. While Bombardier’s Trailtrike still has two wheels in front and one in back, he tells Popular Science the difference is that the Trailtrike can be ridden both on- and off-road.

Bombardier Designs Alternative-Fuel Unicycle

Tue, 17 Mar 2009

Not only has Bombardier designed and built snowmobiles, planes, trains and the Can-Am Spyder, the privately held Quebec-based company also tinkers with prototypes like the Embrio – the French Canadian answer to the Segway Human Transporter and resembles closely to the “Uno”. Unlikely to ever see actual production, this one-wheeled concept uses gyroscopic technology to balance its rider. The vehicle was allegedly designed to demonstrate what we bipedal humanoids might be using for transportation in the year 2025.
