2014 BMW R 1200 R, The all-round model revision of the R 1200 R has produced a truly multi-talented machine. The distinguished design, the newly developed DOHC flat-twin engine and the ingenious chassis with Telelever and Paralever make the R 1200 R a genuine RocknRoll Roadster which will get the most out of every road in terms of riding pleasure. Visually speaking, the revision of the R 1200 R is once again a real eye-catcher. The purist lines and the even more refined finish demonstrate the powerful character of the machine. New circular instruments, a new higher-quality fork, the new double-butted aluminium handlebars, beautiful new cast wheels, a chrome manifold as standard and much more besides - all this reflects an attention to detail as far as the eye can see. Especially in the Classic version, with is absolute Rock'n'Roll for the eyes with a wide range of visual highlights such as spoke wheels, chrome features and an attractive paint finish in black and white. The air-cooled two-cylinder twin engine offers not only a new sonorous, throaty sound at a whole new level but also a genuine innovation: after their appearance in the GS and R models, the two overhead camshafts and four radially arranged valves now see their debut here. What is more, output has been increased to 81 kW (110 bhp), with a maximum torque which has also been raised to 119 Nm at 6,000 rpm. This means that the power unit now accelerates with even greater ease from low engine speeds, performing impressively in all situations on the road and delivery even greater pulling power. The special equipment features available ex works for this all-rounder range from safety features such as part integral ABS, ASC and tyre pressure control through to comfort and tour-oriented features such as ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment), case holders and windshield. And there are some impressive motorcycle accessories available for the R 1200 R, too, with an extremely light Akrapovic silencer made of titanium, practical system cases and eye-catching chrome cylinder head covers. Kevin Ash, one year on
Wed, 08 Jan 2014I’ve lost dozens of friends in bike racing over the years, and while each death was a shock and incredibly sad, I’ve always had some kind of internal coping mechanism that allowed me to carry on relatively unaffected. Maybe it’s because I was always extremely passionate and committed when taking part in my dangerous sport so was also prepared to pay the ultimate price should things go wrong. Rightly or wrongly I’ve taken comfort from the fact that these unfortunate racers have checked out while doing something they love. I’ve also lost a few journalist friends in bike accidents over the years but for some reason these have hit me harder. The worst and possibly as it is the most recent is Kevin Ash who was killed last January while on a BMW launch in South Africa. Starting in 2001, over a period of ten years, I was in Kevin’s company on countless new bike launches in pretty much every corner of the world. At times he was cocky and occasionally irritating but always entertaining with a wicked sense of humour. He was many things but no one can deny he was a brilliant journalist and his technical knowledge was second to none. I always appreciated his complete enthusiasm to all things biking as he would ride through any weather on a daily basis to jobs or airports and seemed to always be tinkering with winter projects (mainly Ducatis) at home. I also admired how much work he got through as he had columns in more than one weekly publication plus all his launch and web work. He was a competent safe rider who was certainly quick enough to evaluate any new bike thrown his way. Kevin also drove a Porsche but then none of us are perfect! I looked to Kevin as a wise Owl so not long after I started working with TWO/ Visordown, I asked him on an R1 launch in Australia he thought the motorcycle industry was currently in a good place. His reply was, ‘we’ve just been flown here business class, been taken by speed boat to our five star hotel under Sydney Harbour Bridge, Yamaha have wined and dined us and furnished us with expensive gifts each day, what do you think Niall? How times have changed. On the subject on air travel he once told me, ‘when travelling business or first class it’s not about the pampering, comfy beds or fine dining, the important part is looking smug as you walk straight past all the people lining up at the cattle class check in! On more than one occasion I had food or drink spurt out when Kevin would deliver unexpected one line funnies at the dinner table.
2014 BMW F800GS Adventure Announced
Thu, 02 May 2013BMW has announced a new Adventure version of the F800GS, providing a more off-road-oriented version of the middleweight dual-sport. BMW has offered an Adventure version of the R1200GS for a while now but this is the first time BMW has done the same for one of its smaller GS models. Like the base F800GS, the Adventure version is powered by a liquid-cooled 798cc four-valve parallel-twin engine.
EICMA 2013: 2014 BMW nineT First Impressions – Video

The unique roadster was designed to both embody and celebrate the 90 years of BMW motorcycles by emphasizing the archetypical form of BMW’s qualities. Now, as part of the EICMA 2013 show, the rest of the world media and the public who are lucky enough to be in Milan get a chance to throw a leg over one.
