BMW K-Series description

The 2006 BMW K1200LT is powered by BMW Motorrad's powerful, smooth water-cooled four-stroke inline four that puts out 1,172cc of displacement and makes 116 horsepower and 86 lb/ft of torque. Premium fuel provides the go, while twin disc floating disc brakes up front and single disc floaters out back make the whoa! Stability on the bike is helped out by BMW Motorrad ABS brakes which are fully integrated into the brake system, bringing the BMW K1200LT's 1,322 potential pounds of bike, riders, and equipment to a safe, quick stop. The tank holds 6.2 gallons of fuel, with a 1 gallon reserve, giving the BMW K1200LT a range well in excess of that particularly seedy looking gas station you just really don't want to stop off at.

The BMW K1200LT offers unsurpassed luxury for gliding along in relaxed comfort on the neverending open road. It also has the benefit of one or two innovations. The high-performance engine delivers 116 bhp and 120 Nm torque for swift acceleration when overtaking, even carrying a full load. The WAD spring strut with travel-dependent damping increases ride comfort especially on journeys when you have a pillion passenger and luggage. The seat has been narrowed according to an ergonomics analysis to make handling more convenient. Ground lighting makes getting on and off the bike safer. The BMW K1200LT can also offer the world's first electrohydraulic extending centre stand. All you need now is the time to enjoy it.

The K 1200 LT offers one of the smoothest, most comfortable rides imaginable.

Gold Rush

Tue, 27 Nov 2012

Spotted at this year's Motorcycle Live. The 'net is awash with gold-wrapped and horrendously painted supercars, often sporting Middle-Eastern numberplates but this S1000RR isn't an Arab creation. Nope, it's a one-off paintjob by BMW for the 2012 Olympics, where BMW supplied cars and bikes to ferry around VIPs.

Cal looking good

Sun, 20 Mar 2011

Make no mistake Cal Crutchlow is doing an amazing job during his short career in Moto GP. He is asking not to be compared to Ben Spies but when you consider Spies had three Moto GP races under his belt at the same point in his career, Cal's 8th position in Qatar qualifying then 11th in the race is a pretty solid start.  He ended 2010 as one of the best world's best superbike riders but the 800cc Moto GP machines require different riding skills. Watching trackside it is easy to see the the riders have to brake later backshift quicker before getting back on the throttle on the corner entry. With the help of advanced electronics this loads the front tyre earlier giving the potential for greater momentum that continues past the apex to the corner exit and beyond.
